Urban & Local Planning
As cities grow, urban planners are increasingly relying upon RS to provide accurate, wide-ranging, and timely information about their buildings, roads, parks, utilities and urban networks. Concurrently, many municipalities face the challenge of providing expanded services on ever-smaller budgets – to meet these demands, they must refine and automate their services.
After ortho-correcting images to pinpoint accuracy, PCI Geomatics’ tools allow the combination of image data with GPS, elevation, CAD, and other geospatial layers, creating a rich database for planners. Further analysis, including classification, 3D visualization and change detection, can support everything from transportation corridor planning to pollution plumes, urban tree canopy health, and groundwater supply. Rapidly-growing cities in particular can use RS to manage the urban / rural divide, shepherding the transition of agricultural land to residential, commercial and industrial land uses.
With over 25 years of geospatial imaging expertise, our team has worked with cities on projects ranging from in-house image map production to full-scale spatial information systems. PCI Geomatics can help you to build efficient systems for cadastral and mapping applications, land use management, and maintenance of urban infrastructure.

State & National Planning
Issues related to population growth, the environment, and natural disasters do not affect discrete areas within municipal boundaries – they affect large regions and extend across political and administrative jurisdictions. Agencies operating at the state and national level need to manage a complex web of influences: rapidly changing demographics, the balance of community planning vs. environmental impact, and the diversity of priorities, budgets and information-sharing across departments. Meeting these challenges requires access to up-to-date, relevant, and accurate spatial information.
Moderate-resolution satellite images (e.g. SPOT, Landsat) are particularly useful for state- and national-level RS applications, because these generally require data covering larger physical areas than cities and counties. From watershed management to disaster response to large-scale land use planning, state and national agencies rely on PCI Geomatics technology to create accurate satellite basemaps, derive thematic information through spatial and spectral analysis, and to build and share maps within and across agencies. As champions of standards-based geospatial software, PCI Geomatics has removed barriers to data interoperability, allowing departments to exchange and combine data in new and informative ways.
With software designed for building and sharing geospatial data, PCI Geomatics can help you to build applications that support your organization’s goals with rich, spatially-accurate satellite image products. Across the world, government agencies responsible for business, ecology, the environment, natural resources management and protection, defense, and emergency response use PCI Geomatics solutions to obtain accurate information, and to inform policy and decision making in their respective areas of interest.

NIP – National Imagery Project |
Natural Resources Canada provides quality geospatial information to Canadians, and is collaborating with TELUS Corporation, Iunctus Geomatics and PCI Geomatics on an automated approach for delivering orthorectified satellite imagery to the Canadian public.
PCI Geomatics’ image-centric technology is used for developing an automated enterprise system, based on a national imagery database. The result is a timely and cost effective approach for delivering updated imagery of Canada, which will be freely distributed via a web portal. This turn-key enterprise approach will manage the quarter million individual files that will be produced over the course of the project, allowing for the delivery of the corrected imagery on time and on budget.
